Robert Lewandowski is set to leave Barcelona this summer, but the emotional ties his family have built with the city over four years make this one of the most difficult decisions of his career.
Polish journalist Tomasz Wlodarczyk, who is close to Lewandowski’s inner circle, explained the situation clearly. “The club knows its own intentions – they want to sign a new striker and see Lewandowski in a different role. That is something he is not comfortable with. He wants to play, score goals, be important. And if Barcelona cannot offer him that, he is ready to move on.”
Lewandowski still believes he has two or three years at the highest level and is unwilling to accept a secondary role behind an undisputed starter.
Yet the decision has been far from straightforward on a personal level. His wife Anna has built a fitness business in Barcelona, the family are settled in Castelldefels, and they own property in Mallorca.
“Lewandowski and his family love Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain – the climate, the life they have here. They are even building a new house in Castelldefels. They will certainly return. I am sure this is not the end between Robert and Barcelona in terms of life,” Wlodarczyk said.
