Liverpool Unlikely to Pursue €45m Star, Reports Suggest

Liverpool’s Interest in Alejandro Balde Remains Uncertain

Liverpool’s supposed pursuit of Barcelona left-back Alejandro Balde has come under scrutiny from journalist David Lynch, who questions whether the Reds will indeed focus on acquiring the Spanish player in the upcoming January transfer window.

Lynch shared his thoughts during a discussion with Dave Davis on Anfield Index’s Media Matters podcast, addressing rumors that link Liverpool and AC Milan with Balde, alongside speculation that Barcelona might be open to a transfer worth at least €45 million.

While acknowledging Liverpool’s need to reinforce their left back position, Lynch expressed doubts about Balde’s fit and whether the reported interest signals an authentic transfer opportunity.

“I’m not sure about Balde as well. Like, I don’t really know how good he is,” Lynch stated.

Alejandro Balde Linked With Liverpool and AC Milan

During the podcast, Davis referenced reports from Spanish journalist Juan Jesus, suggesting that both Liverpool and AC Milan were interested in Balde.

They discussed the reported €45 million asking price, with Davis probing whether Liverpool should address their left back issue before the summer transfer window.

“This name keeps being linked to Liverpool,” Davis noted.

Lynch recognized the uncertainty over Liverpool’s current left-back options but questioned if January would be the right time for a signing.

“They’ve got two imperfect options, no question about that, but they’ve got two options,” he explained.

He further mentioned that Liverpool’s typical recruitment style might indicate they are unlikely to rush for such a transfer this January.

“Knowing how Liverpool operate, I’m not sure they’ll be desperate to get that done in January,” Lynch said.

His remarks suggest that the club’s transfer priorities may remain focused on the summer window, particularly when both full-back positions may need to be addressed.

David Lynch Raises Questions About Barcelona Defender’s Quality

Lynch also raised concerns regarding Balde’s performances, questioning whether the young Barcelona defender would be the solution Liverpool needs.

“He’s made a lot of appearances for Barca, he’s still young, but they obviously don’t think he’s right for them,” Lynch pointed out.

The journalist evaluated Balde’s performance statistics, saying, “You look at his numbers from kind of last season and they’re not, they don’t absolutely jump off the page, I’d say.”

His assessment underlined the doubts regarding Balde’s potential fit within Liverpool’s plans under manager Andoni Iraola.

Lynch did not suggest that Liverpool had made any formal approach for the defender and made it clear that the interest reported was not based on any insider information he received.

Liverpool Interest in Alejandro Balde Remains Unconfirmed

One of the most critical aspects of Lynch’s evaluation was the validity of Liverpool’s reported interest.

“It’s not anything I’ve heard about as well personally at the moment yet,” he stated.

Lynch speculated that Liverpool’s name could be leveraged to generate buzz regarding Balde ahead of January.

“I don’t know whether Liverpool are just getting dragged into that one a little bit to kind of try and create a market,” he added.

As the winter transfer window approaches, Lynch expected similar speculation to arise.

“Which may well happen with January being right around the corner. There may be a few of those type things,” he noted.

These comments leave significant ambiguity regarding whether Liverpool’s rumored interest in Balde will escalate into more concrete developments.

Liverpool’s Summer Transfer Priorities Could Influence January Decision

The broader conversation also touched on Liverpool’s transfer strategy beyond January, with Davis pondering if delaying signings might lead to an overwhelming situation next summer.

Lynch emphasized that focusing on full-back recruitment is vital for Liverpool’s future.

“I think it is the fullbacks and the midfield are a hundred percent of the things that need done,” he said.

Nonetheless, he remained doubtful that Liverpool would hasten their transfer approach solely to lighten their summer workload.

“Maybe there will be a kind of surprise in January and they’ll do something. They’ll get ahead of something that they need to do in the summer,” Lynch suggested.

For the time being, Liverpool’s reported interest in Alejandro Balde remains uncertain, with Lynch questioning both the player’s fit for the club and the feasibility of a January deal.

The Reds are likely to examine their full-back options, but it remains unclear if the Barcelona defender will be part of their future plans.
