Grêmio Novorizontino Secures Promotion to 2027 Brasileirão
Grêmio Novorizontino has made history as the first club to achieve promotion from this year’s Série B. The team clinched their place in the 2027 Brasileirão with a comeback victory against Fortaleza in the penultimate round of the second division, marking a significant milestone for the club.
This promotion is especially notable as it will be the inaugural time that Novorizontino, hailing from the interior of São Paulo state, competes in the top flight of Brazilian football. The club previously finished as runners-up in this year’s São Paulo state championship and has narrowly missed out on promotion in earlier Série B editions. In 2023 and 2024, they placed fifth, just shy of the promotion spots.
Last season, a disappointing run of results in the final stages of the competition delayed their promotion aspirations yet again. However, the team has a chance to add to their achievements; if Juventude fails to secure a win against Cuiabá this Saturday, Novorizontino will also claim the 2026 Série B title.
This year, only the top two clubs in Série B earn automatic promotion to the first division, while teams finishing in third to sixth will enter playoffs to contest the remaining two promotion slots. Although Fortaleza still vies for a spot, their defeat on Saturday dashed their hopes of finishing in the top two.
