Atalanta and Roma Top Serie A in Signing Value, Fiorentina Falls Last

Atalanta and Roma Lead Serie A Clubs in Signings Value Growth

In the latest report from the CIES Football Observatory, Atalanta and Roma emerge as the top Serie A clubs that have significantly increased the value of their signings over the past five years. Meanwhile, Fiorentina ranks as the only club in the current top flight that has registered a loss in this area.

The Swiss-based research group assessed 251 clubs globally, examining the value changes of non-academy players signed since 2022. Their analysis focuses on the fees spent and earned from transfers, along with the current market valuation of players still with the clubs.

Atalanta stands out as the leading Italian team, securing the 10th spot worldwide with a remarkable gain of €354 million. Roma follows closely in 13th place, recording a total increase of €323 million, mostly attributed to the enduring contracts of players currently at the club. The Italian top five is rounded out by Udinese at €252 million, with both Bologna and Inter each at €236 million.

At the other end of the spectrum, Fiorentina finds itself in a challenging position, ranked 236th overall, with an overall loss of €27 million. The club has experienced a €51 million reduction regarding players sold, despite engaging in a transfer activity that amounted to €569 million in transactions.

Milan also faces difficulties in light of its high spending. With the highest total transfer volume of any Italian team at €986 million, the gain recorded is just €69 million, placing them at 123rd. Notably, the current market value of their new signings now reflects a decrease of €20 million compared to the amounts initially paid.

Additionally, Napoli ranks 63rd with a signing value change of €128 million while Juventus reports a decline of €85 million from players they have previously sold.

The following table summarizes the rankings of Italian clubs based on the change in the value of signings since 2022:
