Tottenham Files Formal Complaint Regarding Jayden Bogle Decision

Tottenham Hotspur to Lodge Formal Complaint Over Referee Decision

Tottenham Hotspur plans to file an official complaint with Pro Ref concerning the decision not to send off defender Jayden Bogle during their 1-0 loss to Leeds at Elland Road.

The club believes Bogle should have been shown a red card and intends to seek clarification from the refereeing governing body regarding the decision that left the player unpunished.

During the match, Bogle made a lunging tackle on Spurs forward Mathys Tel, landing on Tel’s ankle with his left foot. Referee John Brooks ruled the tackle as a foul against Spurs but chose not to issue any further sanctions to Bogle.

The game was halted temporarily while Tel received on-field treatment, and the Video Assistant Referee reviewed the incident. After a four-minute assessment, VAR’s Tony Harrington decided not to have Brooks consult the pitch-side monitor.

The tackle was characterized as “reckless,” yet Bogle remained in the game, while Tel was ultimately substituted due to ongoing issues with his Achilles.

This incident occurred just a week after Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta received a red card for a similar challenge against Spurs. Later in the match, Tottenham’s Pedro Porro received a yellow card for a comparable tackle, which frustrated manager Roberto de Zerbi.

Mathys Tel had to be subbed off due to a lingering niggle following Jayden Bogle’s tackle (PA)

“I have big confidence in the referee. Nothing changes if he goes to the monitor,” De Zerbi stated. “If they didn’t take the right decision I don’t know. We have to keep our eyes on the performance where we can improve.

“I was surprised about the yellow card for Pedro Porro because it was clear. The potential red card, I couldn’t say. We have full confidence in the referee and VAR. I cannot say anything more.”
